In the integrated organisation of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA), Budapest Design Week awaits those interested in design at over 100 venues between the 10th and the 20th of October 2024. Creative programs, temporary exhibitions, guided tours, and other exciting events will await audiences interested in design all around Budapest and in cities in the countryside. Highlighted programmes and side events enrich the Budapest Design Week event calendar, with more than 100 events available as part of the largest design festival in the country.

Organising the Budapest Design Week was added to the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency’s scope of duties in August 2024. The Agency further enhances the largest domestic design event with its extensive domestic and international network of contacts and the experiences gained at home and abroad while keeping in mind the promotion of the Hungarian creative industry ecosystem. The event series aims to offer educational and compelling content to everyone, regardless of age or professional experience.

Budapest Design Week awaits a design-interested public in 2024 with more than 100 diverse events. “By integrating the organisation of Budapest Design Week and the 360 Design Budapest regional exhibition, the two key programs will strengthen each other, complementing one another and positioning Budapest as the creative industry hub of the region in the future. We hope the event series can reach a broad Hungarian audience and attract international attention. To this end, our goal is to connect as many professional players as possible and include them under the Budapest Design Week umbrella, jointly offering a high-level range of programs to those interested and presenting the multifaceted world of Hungarian design and contemporary arts to them. We want to enhance visibility in the area and, as part of this, provide a platform for emerging talents. The event’s educational and visibility-enhancing impact contributes to strengthening the competitiveness of Hungarian businesses, and by capturing the attention of the international audience, in the long run, the creative industry’s exportability can also expand,” – highlighted Zsófia Jakab, Ministerial Commissioner for Creative Industry Development and Sectoral Coordination and CEO of the HFDA.

Side events realised through accentuated collaborations offer reference points in the biggest design event series in the country. As part of Budapest Design Week, an award ceremony will take place: ELLE EDIDA will acknowledge the best and most inspiring creators, products, and beautiful spaces in Hungarian design on the 10th of October 2024.

Between the 15th and the 20th of October, the fifth 360 Design Budapest exhibition will open its doors as the central exhibition of BDW in the former waiting room of Nyugati Railway Station, with a larger selection of domestic and international contemporary design and art than ever before. As an accentuated professional event of the HFDA, they invite representatives of the design industry and associated sectors to a BDW Roundtable, discussing collaboration and future professional opportunities.

Art Market Budapest, as the fine arts partner of BDW, awaits the audience to Millenáris at an international contemporary art fair between the 17th and the 20th of October. Visitors interested in domestic design and arts can discover new products at the design fair by the Independent Contemporary Art Salon (FIKSZ). One of the main venues of the design festival, ArtHAB (Hungarian Art & Business), is preparing several exciting arts programmes.

The colourful program calendar is composed of a multitude of side events, highlights and co-events. In addition to the events in the capital, two other cities will await those yearning to learn more about the world of design: The Sopron Design Week and DesignPécs. Printed program catalogues placed at the side event venues will aid navigation among the various possibilities offered by the event series.

Budapest Design Week

Budapest Design Week is the largest experience-based domestic event series for the broadest audience. Organised annually by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, the event series aims to demonstrate the direct impact of design in all areas of life, thereby increasing awareness and recognition of design as a cultural and economic resource. The event comes to life through partner-organised side events, featured events, and co-events offering activities in the capital and additional major cities through partner events. The long-term goal of HFDA is to develop BDW into a regional, experience-based design event series.

About the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency

The Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency was founded in 2018 to support every actor in the fashion and design industries in an efficient and structured way, following predetermined strategic pillars: professional coordination, enhancing Hungarian brands’ availability and trade opportunities, educational development and manufacturing development. To realise their goals, HFDA organises domestic events each year, such as the region’s major fashion event, the Budapest Central European Fashion Week, or the 360 Design Budapest exhibition, which has received international awards. Besides, they provide Hungarian creators opportunities for participation and debuting at international professional events such as the Milano Fashion Week. Strategic cooperation with professional organisations, increasing exports, and supporting Hungarian brands’ professional development with mentoring programmes are among their accentuated goals.
