Favorites of our favorites – If you were editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration for a day…

2025.10.09.

Every year, Budapest Design Week is a unique opportunity to bring new faces and old icons of the Hungarian design world closer to the public. In the Favourites of our Favourites column, ELLE Decoration’s editor-in-chief Judit Osvárt recommends four programmes that are particularly close to her heart – both as a professional and as a design enthusiast.

“For us, Budapest Design Week promises to be an opportunity to connect with the industry, and every year we discover new talent at its events.” – says Judit Osvárt, Editor-in-Chief, ELLE Decoration. Judit Osvárt is not only a committed advocate of the development of Hungarian design, but also of discovering and supporting emerging designers. Her selection therefore highlights both the diversity and excitement of Hungarian design today and how it can connect with international trends. Let’s see!

The home of icons, a Bauhaus story – exhibition and guided tour

“Everything we love in design and interior design today started from the Bauhaus, and the houses on Sunflower Street are the most beautiful memorials of this era in our country. When all this meets Code’s style, contemporary design and fine art, we are sure it will be a wow experience!”

Hollóházi Porcelain – Design first, coffee second – pop-up

“We are always cheering when we see a historic brand come back to life – like Hollóházi. Their showroom in Pest is a little jewel box anyway, and we love coffee too, so we’re looking forward to seeing what roasts (or brews?) at their pop-up!”

The thread of elegance: round table discussion and exclusive carpet show

“One of our favourite genres is carpet design, and we’ve already had the pleasure of seeing some of the new collection at Milan Design Week this spring, and we’re following the work of local professionals closely. So it’s safe to say that we’re in for an inspiring programme!”

DesignPécs

“Budapest Design Week and its partners in the countryside have always been unbeatable at including the history of the city in the programme – there is no future and no present without a past. In Pécs, for example, we can take a look at industrial and cultural sites such as the Pécs Organ Building Manufactory or the Pécs Brewery. These events are an excellent opportunity to take a look behind the scenes, learn more about the history of the brand and the city, and to become aware of the many design-related things we can be proud of in the countryside too!”

ELLE Decoration ‘s selection emphasizes the reinterpretation of classical values, the meeting of tradition and contemporary, and the presentation of young artists. Don’t miss the recommended programmes, discover the events through the glasses of a fantastic editor-in-chief, Judit Osvárt!
