Design Belongs To Everybody – Budapest Design Week Offers Experiences Nationwide
2025.09.29.

Between 8 and 19 October, design will be in the spotlight again: over 175 programmes await visitors in ten cities during Budapest Design Week. This year’s motto, Fluid Boundaries, examines crossing borders in the world of design, be it materials, technologies, industries, or the dialogue between the designers and the audience. The aim of the event series is for everyone, regardless of age or gender, to find an exciting programme – the majority of which are free of charge.
Budapest Design Week has been the biggest celebration in the domestic creative industry for 22 years, providing experiences for everyone: deep conversations and inspiration for the professional audience, and for the public, discovery, interactive experiences, and direct meetings with the designers. This year, in Budapest, over 130, and in the countryside, nearly 50 events take place – exhibitions, guided tours, open studios, workshops, design walks, and roundtable discussions showcase how design shapes the everydays.
The strength of the event series is that it extends beyond the capital: this year, in addition to DesignPécs and Sopron Design Week, Debrecen joins the initiative with an entire programme series, and Győr, Kecskemét, Szentendre, Balatonfüred, Tata, and Veszprém also enrich the programme range with their own events.
Flagship programmes include 360 Design Budapest, presenting nearly 400 Hungarian and regional designers’ contemporary works as the main exhibition of BDW. In addition, the Design Without Borders exhibition showcases creations from 15 countries, and Art Market Budapest, the largest contemporary fair in the region, offers a chance to explore regional fine art. The EDIDA awards ceremony, MaxCity’s partner events, and Hungarian higher education institutions’ degree exhibitions further diversify the colourful image of the festival.
Through the Fluid Boundaries theme, BDW underlines that today, design is not merely about object-making but also a tool for creative thinking, innovation, and creating experiences, bringing people together across generations, communities, and interests. For this reason, Budapest Design Week provides inspiring programmes for everyone, whether you seek a family experience, a professional discussion, or an opportunity to explore out of curiosity.
