Sopron – Where the National Design Celebration Has Already Begun
2025.09.29.

Sopron Design Week celebrates a milestone this year: as a regional event of Budapest Design Week, it welcomes the public for the tenth time from September 26 to October 19. The 11-event series showcases the diversity of the local creative industry, art, and design, with a special focus on Sopron-based creators. Exhibitions, workshops, talks, and immersive programs introduce visitors to the inspiring world of shapes, colors, and materials.
The central message of the Sopron events is that design speaks to everyone: attendees can meet creators up close, try techniques in ceramics and printmaking, or immerse themselves in the design worlds of photography, fashion, wine, and coffee culture.
The ceramic exhibition Átjáró presents the collaborative work of five artists, accompanied by open studio sessions, while Viktória Pamuki-Balogh, in cooperation with Főfotó Budapest, opens a window onto new perspectives in photography. The Designed in Sopron exhibition showcases the innovative works of creators connected to the city, including Sixay Furniture, Márta Edőcs, and Mandragora Design.
Among the workshops and open days, Design Days stands out, revealing the secrets of furniture design at the Sixay Furniture studio, alongside the Slang Slang x Vengru program for canvas bag and lamp making, complemented by a pop-up market. At Etyeki Kúria, a lecture focuses on wine label design and brand building, accompanied by wine tasting. Coffee lovers will not want to miss The Rise of Espresso film screening and workshop, which also highlights the design of La Marzocco machines.
Additionally, the Concorde podcast arrives in Sopron with a special episode: Richárd Jónap shares the story of an iconic French luxury brand, while addressing sustainability and material use. At the Darazsak Akadémia Campus open day, architect Dávid Józsa leads a discussion on current challenges in architecture. Photography enthusiasts are invited to the Sztereó képek exhibition and workshop, offering insights into the world of 3D-effect photography.
For ten years, Sopron Design Week has demonstrated that the city is not only rich in historical and cultural values but also vibrant with contemporary creative energy. For three weeks, design literally fills Sopron, inviting everyone to take part in this shared celebration.
