Tangible ideas – join BDW’s colourful workshops!

2025.10.17.

Throughout Budapest Design Week – but especially in the last part – the focus will be on experiential knowledge transfer, creative work and learning about new technologies. The workshop programmes will offer the opportunity to combine the theoretical and practical aspects of contemporary design: working directly with previously unknown materials, learning craft techniques and experimenting will help participants to explore design processes from a new perspective.

Graphasel Design Studio’s event on 17 October will focus on the visual identity of the Hungarian pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The challenges of logo design and cultural representation will be addressed in an interactive presentation. On the same day, 17 October, the WATOJI workshop, a special programme of the Something Productive Workshop, will offer the opportunity to try out Japanese bookbinding techniques, and to create unique objects while learning the basics. The day will close with a personal talk by fashion journalist Eszter Mengyán, who will discuss the ideas behind the Self Identity Calendar, reflecting on the psychology of dressing, body image and sustainable wardrobe design.

One of the most exciting items in the rich programme of Absolute Aesthete is the lecture “Beyond the Mirror – Fitting the Future of Fashion” on 18 October, which will focus on issues of dressing, body image and digital presence, while the organisers of the “Boundless Material” event are preparing a performative presentation on the themes of materiality, the medium and creative freedom.

One of the highlights of the day on 19 October will be SZETT – RUG ART FEST MIX, which will put the genre of textile design in a new perspective. Also on the carpet front, JAB Anstoetz Budapest’s showcase ‘Thread of Elegance’ will offer an insight into the tradition of handloom weaving and the world of interior textiles.

The closing event of the Sopron Design Week will take place on 19 October in collaboration with the University of Sopron Institute of Applied Arts. The exhibition “Designed in Sopron – Sopron designers in the world” will showcase the creative talents of the city, especially those who have won national and international recognition – visitors will also be able to participate in interactive workshops.

This year’s participatory events of Budapest Design Week are organised around collaborative creation, knowledge transfer and sensory experience. Join in and get to know the world of design better!
