Material and Memory – Exhibition of Works by Textile Artist Zsófia Eredics

Location:

Budapest, Textilgyár - 1036 Budapest, Fényes Adolf utca 23.

Dates

2025.10.08 - 2025.10.19

The exhibition places the ancient technique of felting into a contemporary textile art context and seeks to explore the stories, memories, and sensations embedded in the material. The natural structure of wool and the layers created through handwork evoke the stratification of collective and personal memory. The play of colours, textures, and shapes reflects on the perception of boundaries – the encounter of soft and hard surfaces reflects both external and internal limits. The exhibition examines how craft traditions meet contemporary visual language. The works carry both the physical properties of the material and the personal imprint of the artist, initiating a dialogue between past and present, craft and design, memory and forgetting. Through these pieces, visitors can connect with their own inner memories and boundaries while discovering the organic beauty of wool and traces of the passage of time.

About the Organiser:
Zsófia Eredics is a textile artist who reinterprets the ancient technique of felting in a contemporary art and design context. After a classical music career, she turned to textile art, where experimentation with materials and the meditative rhythm of the craft process opened new creative spaces for her. In her works, the natural structure of wool, layering, and the harmonious use of colours evoke memories and explore themes of time and boundaries. In 2025, she presented her debut exhibition, Material and Memory, at Kollab as part of the “Space-Time” competition, exploring the intersections of craft tradition and contemporary visual language. The combination of meticulous handwork and conscious form-building creates a unique visual language in which craft tradition engages in dialogue with contemporary visuals. In her exhibitions, she aims for visitors to connect with the material as a personal experience and discover its storytelling power.
