In the unique space of Fabrika – where iconic twentieth-century furniture, distinctive lamps and design rarities meet – the dialogue between contemporary art and object culture opens up a new dimension. Reflecting on the theme of Budapest Design Week 2025, Fluid Boundaries, curator Mariann Kollár’s concept connects three worlds: the abstract works of painter Rita Cserbik, the organic forms of ceramic artist Simon Holpert, and Fabrika’s twentieth-century design objects.
At the centre of the exhibition stands the limited series FLUID REFLECTION, composed of 15 unique ceramic mirrors. These are shaped through the interplay of Simon Holpert’s traditional formal language and Rita Cserbik’s intuitive painting. Alongside the mirrors, rarely seen functional ceramics by Holpert – chalices and serving vessels – will also be on display. Rita Cserbik’s latest paintings respond to the aura of the objects, fitting into the space as if conjuring memories from the fragile edges of form.

About the Organiser:
Simon Holpert was born in France in 1976. After spending eight years in Vienna, he moved to Budapest in 2019 due to his Hungarian roots. He studied philosophy, linguistics and geopolitics at the Sorbonne in Paris, yet was always drawn to the arts. In France, he met ceramicist Lise Meillan, whom he considers his master and from whom he learned the craft of ceramics. He is particularly interested in the hand-crafting of material, as for him the hand represents the gateway to the human soul and the essence of art. Rita Cserbik’s own words best illuminate her work: “To exist is to let the movement lead – on the boundary of instinct and thought, in a single gesture. I do not conform, I respond: in the dialogue of chaos and harmony, I search for tension, where sensations become raw reality. I grew up in a world of symbols and stories, where my father’s biblical lectures showed me early on that behind the visible there always lies a deeper meaning.”
