Old favourites or forgotten garments tucked away in the wardrobe can be brought back to life through the magic of colourful stitches. In the spirit of sustainability, participants can collaboratively create something new from existing pieces, as embroidery can revitalise clothes that have long been neglected. Led by Artgarden Sisi, the workshop teaches the basics of modern embroidery, offering a hands-on, artisan #slowlife experience. Participants will learn essential stitches and gain an introduction to garment embroidery. Each participant brings an old T-shirt, shirt, or pair of jeans into which they will collaboratively infuse new life with charming floral motifs, bold slogans, or unique patterns. Recommended fabrics include non-stretch cotton T-shirts, denim, and linen. The workshop is ideal for complete beginners as well.
About the Organiser:
The Pesti Vigadó is not only one of Budapest’s most beautiful buildings but has also been a focal point of Hungarian cultural life for over 190 years. Its walls have witnessed historic events: the first representative parliament, legendary concerts, and unforgettable balls. Its predecessor, the Redoute, designed by Mihály Pollack, opened in 1833 but was destroyed during the 1848–49 War of Independence. Rebuilt in 1865 according to Frigyes Feszl’s plans, the Vigadó again became the site of major events: hosting Emperor Franz Joseph’s coronation banquet in 1867 and witnessing the birth of Budapest through the unification of Pest, Buda, and Óbuda. Its concert hall hosted performances by Strauss, Liszt, Erkel, Wagner, Bartók, and Dohnányi. After a ten-year restoration completed in 2014, the Pesti Vigadó now serves as the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and stands as Europe’s first interdisciplinary arts centre, offering an ideal venue for cultural, artistic, and public events as well as exhibitions.
